You Need Room Door Hangers For A Smooth Move

Room door hangers are so simple and effective. Not only do they make transferring furniture and boxes easier they also help members of your family get orientated.

Use this simple and effective moving day hack to make your move go as smoothly as possible.

Creating Order in Chaos

Room door hangers are a great way to provide a clear visual cue for anyone helping with the move. You can use them in both the home you are leaving and your new home to help keep order.

Efficient Unpacking:

  • Unpacking becomes more streamlined when you can quickly determine where each box of piece of furniture should go. Room door hangers eliminate the need to move multiple boxes because they have been put in the wrong room.

A Helping Hand for Movers:

  • If you’re using professional movers or having friends help, room door hangers make it clear where things should go. There nothing worse than having to answer the same question over and over again.

Familiarizing Family and Friends:

  • When friends and family visit your new home, room door hangers help them navigate without needing constant directions. This can help them enjoy the excitement of your new home and lets you focus on enjoying their company.

Transitioning with Children:

  • Moving with children can be especially challenging. Room door hangers make it easier for kids to adapt by clearly labelling their spaces and help them adjust to their new surroundings.

“We have moved 3 times in 6 years, and the last move was the smoothest transition I’ve ever experienced. The moving company talked with me over the phone ahead of time and told me “the more organized you are, the easier it will be for us and the cheaper it will be for you.” I wasn’t going to brag, but I’m pretty damn organized. I figured I’d just show him instead. On the day of our move, things went as smoothly as they possibly could. And I attribute that smooth move to this single hack I pulled off that made our moving crew thank me multiple times.

Label your boxes, furniture and rooms

It’s standard practice to label you boxes as you pack them and write a general description of what is inside. But where does the box go when you get to your destination?

A simple door hanger on each door with the number of boxes per room plus big furniture items (like beds) that belong in that room will help your movers.

If you tape a sketch of your home layout near the entrance with the room names the movers will know what goes where.

For large pieces of furniture I stick Painter’s Tape to the item and write on the tape with a sharpie so the item is easy to identify and the tape won’t damage the furniture.

As the movers come through the door they can check which room the box or item need to go and head straight there. No need for them to keep asking you where things need to go.

Then I put a door hanger on every single room of the house. That hanger had the name of the room, along with the listed furniture items that belonged in there. The movers could follow the map I taped to the entry doors, verify the room title on the door hanger, and verify the room label on the piece of furniture.

Your movers are going to love you!
